Anyone who has been involved with a construction project knows to expect the unexpected. In May, 2006, The University of North Carolina, Greensboro, realized they had a predicament that threatened to delay the unveiling of their new Studio Arts Design Center. With less than two weeks to the completion of the project and classes beginning soon, they called Knoxville-based specialty contractor Total Polish Solutions for help. For their solution to the problem, Total Polish Solutions received an Excellence in Construction Award from The Associated General Contractors of Tennessee, Knoxville Branch, and Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc., at the 2007 Excellence in Construction Awards Celebration.

Total Polish Solutions was recognized for their craftsmanship of polished concrete flooring in the 99,000 square feet Studio Arts Design Center, the new home to the university’s Art Department and Interior Architecture Department. Polished concrete flooring, with the look of highly polished natural stone, was designed to be a focal point of the 2-story entrance lobby, the adjoining art gallery, and throughout the building. When two other sub-contractors were not able to complete the job to the University’s specification and satisfaction, Total Polish Solutions was asked to come correct the problem and keep the project on schedule. With one day’s notice that they had one week to install the polished concrete flooring system, Total Polish Solution’s team worked round the clock to get the job done.

 “This was a very challenging project,” says Stan Thomas, President of Total Polish Solutions. “We are honored to be recognized with an Excellence in Construction Award. Polished concrete is our specialty, and we take a lot of pride in the quality of our work. However, this project simply couldn’t have happened without everyone on our team being focused on one thing-the expectations of our customer.”
